Urs Hölze, the senior vice president of technical infrastructure at Google, predicts that within the next five years, Google’s Cloud Platform revenues could surpass its advertising revenue. Speaking at the Structure Conference, he acknowledged that the company is coming from behind in a market where Amazon GOOG 2.03% Web Services and Microsoft MSFT 1.66% Azure have greater mind share in corporate accounts. MTN Telecom CEO quits after $5.2bn Nigerian fine

The CEO of Africa's largest mobile telecoms company, MTN Group, has resigned following two weeks of wrestling with the Nigerian authorities over the imposition of a massive fine. In a statement to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the company announced that Sifiso Dabengwa will leave with immediate effect, to be replaced temporarily by non-executive chairman Phuthuma Nhleko. Chief executive Sifiso Dabengwa tendered his resignation with immediate effect, saying it was "in the interest of the company and its shareholders". The fine, which amounts to double MTN's profit last year, was for failing to cut off unregistered mobile users. The firm was given until 16 November, just two weeks, to pay the penalty. The fine amounts to ₦200,000 ($1,000) for every customer who should have been disco

Satya Nadella has announced a new UK cloud region and data centre expansion, after Microsoft acquired cloud data protection company Secure Islands. Speaking at the company’s annual Future Decoded event in London, Nadella plans to release a number of data centres and a local Azure Cloud region to boost its presence in the UK in 2016. Facebook now hits 1 billion daily active users

Facebook's growth shows signs of rising daily. Facebook has announced that it has over one billion users on average using it everyday. In August it announced it had passed a milestone of having one billion users on the site in a single day. By the next month that was the average. That's a year-over-year increase of 17 percent. Monthly active users increased by 14 percent to 1.55 billion as of the end of September, an increase of 14-percent from the year before. Meanwhile the company continues to see a majority (78-percent) of its ad revenue come from mobile. Even as Net neutrality continues to kick up much dust, a top official of internet.org -- Facebook's free mobile Internet service -- has said Airtel is planning to roll it out in more African countries next month, reports Business-Standard "We have a strong partnership with Airtel and we continue to roll out internet.org with Airtel throughout Africa. With Airtel, we will be rolling it out in more countries after this month," internet.org Vice-President Chris Daniels told PTI in an interview.
